Senior Partner

Jeffrey D. Root is a seasoned Ontario lawyer with over three decades of experience in providing expert Ontario legal representation. He was called to the Ontario Bar in 1992 after obtaining his Bachelor of Laws from Osgoode Hall Law School and a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Guelph. Mr. Root has developed a highly respected practice with a focus on criminal defence.  

Throughout his career, Mr. Root has successfully defended clients facing a wide array of criminal charges, including impaired driving, assault offences, drug-related crimes, firearms violations, fraud, and more severe Criminal Code matters. He is dedicated to safeguarding the rights of each client and offers practical, strategic advice at every stage of the criminal justice process. Moreover, he has significant experience representing Gladue clients and handling cases with extremely serious criminal allegations.  

Understanding that being charged with a criminal offence can be one of the most challenging experiences, Mr. Root believes that every client is entitled to honest guidance, responsive communication, and a robust defence tailored to their specific situation. He invests time in explaining the legal process, assessing the evidence, and crafting a strategy geared towards securing the best possible outcome.  

Based in Welland, Ontario, Mr. Root offers his services to clients across the Niagara Region and surrounding communities. Whether he is negotiating with the Crown or advocating in court, he remains committed to protecting his clients' rights, reputations, and futures through knowledgeable and effective legal representation.

Associate Lawyer

 Maxxmus Bews is a criminal defence lawyer dedicated to providing practical, strategic, and client-focused legal representation. He understands that facing criminal charges can be one of the most difficult experiences in a person's life and is committed to guiding clients through the legal process with professionalism, compassion, and strong advocacy.

Maxxmus graduated with Honours from the University of Leeds in 2024, earning his Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.). He subsequently completed the National Committee on Accreditation (NCA) requirements through the Federation of Law Societies of Canada before being called to the Ontario Bar in 2026. Called to the Bar at just 22 years of age, Maxxmus is among the youngest lawyers to have achieved this milestone in Ontario.

Maxxmus believes that every person deserves skilled legal representation and clear, honest advice regardless of the allegations they face. He takes pride in building strong relationships with his clients, ensuring they understand each stage of the criminal process and feel supported throughout their case.

Based in the Niagara Region, Maxxmus proudly represents clients throughout Southern Ontario. He is committed to protecting his clients' rights while providing responsive, personalized legal services from the initial consultation through to the resolution of their matter.

Law Student

 Jesse Raso is a law student at Western University's Faculty of Law and is an integral member of the team at Root Law Office. He is committed to developing the knowledge and practical skills necessary to provide exceptional legal service while supporting clients through every stage of the legal process.

Prior to attending law school, Jesse graduated from Brock University and the Goodman School of Business, where he built a strong foundation in analytical thinking, communication, and problem-solving. Throughout his academic career, he consistently achieved academic excellence, earning multiple Dean's Honour List distinctions and induction into the Beta Gamma Sigma International Business Honour Society.

Jesse has a particular interest in criminal law and is gaining hands-on experience assisting with legal research, file preparation, client communication, and trial preparation. He approaches every matter with professionalism, attention to detail, and a strong commitment to serving clients with integrity and respect.

Outside of the office, Jesse has demonstrated a longstanding commitment to community service through his volunteer work with the John Howard Society, reflecting his dedication to access to justice and supporting individuals within the legal system.
